What We Believe

Who we are:

We belong to a denomination known as the Presbyterian Church (USA). The word presbyter means “elder” and describes our form of church government.  Our beliefs are sometimes called “Reformed,” which means that we hold them in common with other churches of the Protestant Reformation, but we believe that we are part of the holy catholic (universal) church which is made up of all who believe in Jesus Christ.

What we believe:

We believe in the love of God in Jesus Christ and we confess that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior.  We believe that as we confess our sins and entrust ourselves to Jesus’ forgiveness and redemption extended to us through his death on the cross and resurrection to new life that we are saved by grace through faith.  In gratitude for God’s mercy by which we are saved, we seek to serve Christ by loving God and loving our neighbor.  We believe that giving our life to Christ is the best way to live a holy, happy, and fulfilled life.

What we do:

“We, the people of Wabash Avenue Church, are a community of believers, nourished by the Word, striving to know and live the will of God.  We are dedicated to worshipping together, interpreting the Word, deepening our faith, extending Christian concern to those in need throughout our community and the world, and bringing others to belief in Jesus Christ (WAPC Mission Statement)”
